San Antonio, Texas

On the way to San Antonio, Tx, nothing spectacular, with a few exceptions:

Broke down and got some good ol' McFries in a gas station. It was that or frozen hotdogs....Sorry dad :-)

Electrical problems with my home-made gadgetry, but I'm carrying my own lab. It was hoooot.
The only French-speaking person in the county happened to approach us and entertained us with his funny personality.

The oldest gas pump still in service (I just came up with that)

Caroline's advanced GPS, stuck with Radu's saliva...best glue ever, still attached after 2 weeks and 1 monsoon (more about that later).

We slept in WACO, Tx
Go google it, some crazy shit happened here. In short, The Davidian sect had a mini war with the FBI, and finished in a big mess. What an appropriate name....

"Niq'douille", the bird.
Stopped in this cool restaurant, see the following pics

Another "moment"

The river was full of turtles, big, small, all sizes. We thought they were the local food specialty, but instead.....

....instead it's alligator nuggets! Yes, we ate them and yes, it tastes like chicken...pretty good!

They're so cuuuute ( when they're small)

*** SAN ANTONIO, TX ***

Arrived in San Antonio. Not much of a city until you get right downtown, where it's really pretty, great architecture, but not maintained, many buildings were once nice but are now falling appart. Very quiet, even during business hours, very few people on the streets.

The not so Majestic

This building had no roof and had been vacant since 1992! Right smack downtown.

The mexican square

Our first authentic Margarita

Aaaand, the highlight of the downtown core, the Riverwalk. This is a water canal that has restaurants on the "shores", and looks authentic, especially by US standards. It's quite long too, makes for some great walks, and every establishment has its own character.
We loved it, by day....

...or by night!
Radu Jones, the adventurer of the Ant Incas...

We sneaked into the Hyatt rooftop pool, niiice. Too bad we didn't have swimsuits.

Cool sunset view

Don Corleone

So we went back to our hotel (Gunter Sheraton, complimentary of Don Padre), to try our own rooftop pool. Not really rooftop (more like parking lot roof), but still a great view and a cooling off after a hot day.

Life!

More riverwalk walkin'
This is the outdoor Theatre La Villita.

Una Mamacita....

And the stage.....

...and the Mexican that doesn't want to pay cover.

Worst food in Texas. Honest. The name also says it all.

A real phone switchboard at the hotel. We kept playing with it until a guy pointed to the large sign with "do not touch".

I don't look like I belong there....

On the way out of San Antonio we bought some tires as we're gonna cross the border soon and our tires are kinda done. Caroline found a way to carry them easily.
